Wall Insulation & Dense-Pack Cellulose - Hollywood Riviera Retrofit
The Hollywood Riviera has some of the nicest views in Torrance and some of the coldest walls. These homes were built when energy was cheap and the expectation was a sweater in winter. We drill 2-inch holes at stud bay spacing, insert the fill tube to the bottom, and pack cellulose until the cavity density hits 3.5 pounds per cubic foot - dense enough that it won’t settle, loose enough that it doesn’t blow out the lath. Plugged with matching plaster washers and skim-coated. The traffic noise dropped noticeably; that’s the mass effect of packed cellulose. Written price: $5,600 for 2,400 square feet of wall.
